A Timeline of Professional Milestones

1932

Dr. Mellott is born in Cleveland, Ohio to Samuel Wesley and Julia Ann Maria Mellott.

1953

Dr. Mellott receives a Bachelor of Science in education from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois.

1954

Dr. Mellott receives a Master of Science in education from Eastern Illinois University and becomes a band director at Ramsey Community Schools in Illinois.

1955

Dr. Mellott serves as a lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force.

1960

Dr. Mellott marries Elecive Blair Mellott and rises to the rank of lieutenant colonel and command pilot in the Air National Guard in Iowa, Tennessee, and Illinois.

1962

Dr. Mellott receives a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa.

1963

Dr. Mellott becomes an assistant professor of music at Cumberland College in Williamsburg, Kentucky.

1964

Dr. Mellott receives a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Iowa, serves as principal clarinet in the St. Louis Philharmonic Orchestra, and becomes an assistant professor at Southern Illinois University, where he is eventually promoted to full professor.

1978

Dr. Mellott is named a Distinguished Alumni Performer in the Department of Music at Eastern Illinois University.

1988

Dr. Mellott participates in clarinet recitals at the Oklahoma Clarinet Symposium.

1989

Dr. Mellott performs at ClarinetFest of the International Clarinet Association.

1991

Dr. Mellott performs at ClarinetFest of the International Clarinet Association.

1994

Dr. Mellott earns the title of Professor Emeritus at Southern Illinois University.

2002

Dr. Mellott participates in clarinet recitals at the Oklahoma Clarinet Symposium.
