Born in Phoenix, Arizona to St. Elmo Harry Nauman and Frances Irma Wolf.

1954

Receives a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Chicago.

1957

Receives a Master of Divinity from Berkeley Baptist Divinity School (now American Baptist Seminary of the West) in California.

1957

Becomes a certified ordained minister of the First Baptist Church in St. Paul, Minnesota.

1959

Receives a degree from the Andover-Newton Theological School (now Andover Newton Seminary) in Newton Centre, Massachusetts.

1968

Joins the faculty at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.

1968

Serves as a board member of the Inter-Church Child Care Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

1969

Receives a Doctor of Philosophy from Boston University.

1971

Joins the faculty of the College of William & Mary in Newport, Rhode Island.
