Dr. Woodruff is born in Anniston, Alabama.

1960

Dr. Woodruff becomes the assistant pastor of Fort Mitchell Baptist Church at South Fort Mitchell, Kentucky.

1960

Dr. Woodruff receives a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Alabama.

1962

Dr. Woodruff marries Kay Carolyn Jernigan.

1963

Dr. Woodruff receives a Master of Divinity from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

1963

Dr. Woodruff becomes a Protestant Chaplain at Silvercrest Hospital in New Albany, Indiana.

1966

Dr. Woodruff receives a Doctor of Philosophy in psychology of religion and pastoral care from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

1966

Dr. Woodruff becomes director of the Department of Pastoral Care and Education at Bryce State Hospital in Tuscaloosa.

1968

Dr. Woodruff authors “Alcohol, In and Out of the Church” and “Alcoholism and Christian Experience.”

1971

Dr. Woodruff becomes an associate professor and chaplain supervisor in the Department of Patient Counseling at Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia.

1976

Dr. Woodruff is promoted to associate professor and chairman of the Department of Psychology of Religion and Pastoral Care at the Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri.

1978

Dr. Woodruff becomes executive director of the Peninsula Pastoral Counseling Center in Newport News, Virginia.

1980

Dr. Woodruff becomes a licensed professor counselor in the state of Virginia.

1980

Dr. Woodruff becomes a clinical instructor in the Navy Chaplain Residency Program at Portsmouth Navy Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia.

1988

Dr. Woodruff is appointed executive director of the American Association of Pastoral Counselors in Washington, D.C.

2002

Dr. Woodruff receives the Distinguished Service Award from the Virginia Institute of Pastoral Care.

2003

Dr. Woodruff receives the Distinguished Contributions Award from the American Association of Pastoral Counselors.

2004

Dr. Woodruff serves as interim pastor of Vienna Baptist Church.

2012

Dr. Woodruff becomes a clinical supervisor in the Department of Pastoral Counseling at Loyola University Maryland.

2014

Dr. Woodruff retires as a professional association executive.
