Receives a Doctor of Medicine from the St. Louis University School of Medicine.

Serves as a naval physician with the U.S. Marine Corps in Vietnam.

Receives a Medal for Valor from the U.S. Marine Corps.

Serves as a member of the U.S. Naval Reserve Medical Corps until 1968.

Undertakes a residency at the St. Louis University School of Medicine until 1971.

Conducts psychoanalytic training at the St. Louis Psychoanalytic Institute until 1976.

Marries Ellen Louise Moran.
