1951
Dr. Kauffman is born in San Francisco, California to Raymond Roger and Patricia Virginia Kauffman.
1973
Dr. Kauffman produces, writes, and directs “Coming Home,” for which she receives First Place for Creativity in Directing.
1974
Dr. Kauffman receives a Bachelor of Arts in journalism with honors from the University of California Berkeley and becomes a writer, news producer, reporter, and anchor for ABC, Inc. in Texas.
1979
Dr. Kauffman writes and produces the Consumer Hotline, “Animal, Vegetable, Mineral, Chemical?” for Public Broadcasting Service (PBS).
1980
Dr. Kauffman graduates summa cum laude from The University of Texas at Austin, receiving a Master of Arts in communication and becomes a senior writer, producer, and director for Ampex Corp. (now Ampex Data Systems) in California. Dr. Kauffman also writes, produces and directs a PBS special called “Thanksgiving.” She begins producing pen, ink and watercolor cards based on her original artwork.
1985
Dr. Kauffman becomes a faculty member of the Department of Radio, TV and Motion Pictures at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She writes a book, called “I’m Clueless: Confessions of a College Teacher.”
1986
Dr. Kauffman becomes a lecturer of the faculty of the Department of Communication at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina.
1989
Over the next year, Dr. Kauffman writes a collection of eight poetry books titled “Just Visiting.” She wins a national first in audio production from the National Broadcasting Society. The books are sold in bookstores and produced into radio and television shows. During this time, she also writes “Songs by Terry Kauffman,” a book of compositions which is used in local arts performances, television shows, and music classrooms.
1991
Dr. Kauffman is nominated for a regional Emmy Award for her work, called “Otters from Oiled Waters.” She also creates one of the first frame-by-frame computer animated videos.
1993
Dr. Kauffman is recognized as Professional Member of the Year and she receives a Certificate of Merit for Curriculum Development and Enrichment from the National Broadcasting Society. She also becomes a faculty member with Meredith College.
1994
Dr. Kauffman authors a textbook, “The Script as Blueprint: Writing for Radio, TV, Film and Video,” published by McGraw-Hill.
1995
Dr. Kauffman receives the Outstanding Lecturer Award from the Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at North Carolina State University.
1996
Dr. Kauffman receives a Doctor of Philosophy in psychology, communication, creative expression, and therapy with distinction from the Union Institute (now Union Institute and University) in Cincinnati, Ohio, becoming a creative arts specialist. Dr. Kauffman creates Creative Spaces, an arts organization where she created cards and artwork. Throughout her career, she has worked on creative arts related to San Francisco for her entire life, as this is what she enjoys most.
1997
Dr. Kauffman is elected to the American Psychological Association.
1999
Dr. Kauffman receives a commemorative plaque from her television writing/producing/directing class thanking her for her hard work and skill as a teacher.
2000
Dr. Kauffman is nominated for Best Teacher at North Carolina State University out of nine candidates and is named an Outstanding Scholar and Intellectual of the 20th Century by the International Biographical Centre of Cambridge, England.
2001
Dr. Kauffman becomes an assistant lecturer of art studies at North Carolina State University.
2002
Dr. Kauffman sells her pen, ink and watercolor cards, called Cards by Terry at the North Carolina Museum of Art Foundation, Inc.
2006
Dr. Kauffman authors “The Inner Sojourn” and “The Perfect Camellia.”
2018
Dr. Kauffman performs with the Cardinal Singers, a local church choir and the Magnolia Glen choir in Raleigh, North Carolina. She is also honored with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award from Marquis Who’s Who, and she is listed in Who’s Who in Creative Arts.
