Dr. Coan is born in Martinez, California to Otis Welton and Esta Dorothy Coan.

1948

Dr. Coan receives a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the University of California, Berkeley.

1950

Dr. Coan receives a Master of Arts in psychology from the University of California, Berkeley.

1950

Dr. Coan becomes a psychology instructor at Los Angeles City College.

1955

Dr. Coan receives a Doctor of Philosophy in psychology from the University Southern California.

1955

Dr. Coan becomes a research associate in psychology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

1957

Dr. Coan becomes an associate professor at the University of Arizona, eventually becoming full professor.

1974
