Dr. Finkelstein is born in New York, New York to Frank and Sylvia Finkelstein.

1950

Dr. Finkelstein receives a Bachelor of Science from The University of Oklahoma.

1950

Dr. Finkelstein becomes a teaching fellow and research scientist at The University of Texas at Austin.

1952

Dr. Finkelstein receives a Master of Arts from The University of Texas at Austin.

1955

Dr. Finkelstein receives a Doctor of Philosophy from The University of Texas at Austin.

1955

Dr. Finkelstein becomes a fellow and instructor at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.

1958

Dr. Finkelstein is appointed chief of the Bioassay Section of the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Washington, D.C.

1964

Dr. Finkelstein is appointed chief of the Department of Bacteriology and Mycology at the Southeast Asia Treaty Organization Medical Research Laboratory in Bangkok, Thailand.

1965

Dr. Finkelstein serves as a visiting associate professor at the University of Medical Sciences in Bangkok, Thailand.

1966

Dr. Finkelstein serves as a Major in the Medical Service Corps of the U.S. Army Reserve.

1967

Dr. Finkelstein becomes an associate professor in the Department of Microbiology at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

1970

Dr. Finkelstein becomes a consultant for the World Health Organization.

1973

Dr. Finkelstein is promoted to full professor at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

1979

Dr. Finkelstein becomes a professor and chairman of the Department of Microbiology at the University of Missouri School of Medicine in Columbia, Missouri.

1985

Dr. Finkelstein becomes a Millsap Distinguished Professor at the University of Missouri.

1986

Dr. Finkelstein receives the Sigma Xi Research Award from the University of Missouri.

1990

Dr. Finkelstein becomes a Curators’ Professor at the University of Missouri.

1995

Dr. Finkelstein serves as a visiting lecturer at the National Science Council in Taipei, Taiwan.

1996

Dr. Finkelstein receives the Distinguished Service Award from the American Society for Microbiology.

2000

Dr. Finkelstein retires and earns the title of Professor Emeritus at the University of Missouri.
