1930

Dr. Reiss is born in Lake Placid, New York to Julian and Daisy Reiss.

1952

Dr. Reiss receives a Bachelor of Science from Holy Cross College.

1954

Dr. Reiss receives a Master of Arts from Fordham University and becomes a tutor at Harvard University.

1955

Dr. Reiss marries Rosemary A. Donohue.

1957

Dr. Reiss becomes an instructor and then assistant professor at Marquette University.

1960

Dr. Reiss receives a Doctor of Philosophy from Harvard University.

1960

Dr. Reiss is appointed president of The Julian Reiss Foundation.

1961

Dr. Reiss is appointed chairman of the Department of Sociology at Marquette University.

1961

Dr. Reiss serves as the editor of “Sociological Analysis: A Journal in the Sociology of Religion.”

1963

Dr. Reiss becomes an associate professor of sociology at Fordham University.

1964

Dr. Reiss is appointed chairman of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Fordham University.

1968

Dr. Reiss is appointed dean of the Liberal Arts College of Fordham University.

1969

Dr. Reiss becomes vice president of academy affairs at the Liberal Arts College of Fordham University.

1975

Dr. Reiss is promoted to executive vice president of the Liberal Arts College of Fordham University.

1976

Dr. Reiss is promoted to full professor at Fordham University.

1985

Dr. Reiss becomes president of St. Michael’s College in Colchester, Vermont.

1996

Dr. Reiss becomes President Emeritus of St. Michael’s College.

1996

Dr. Reiss is named a Distinguished Citizen by The Green Mountain Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

2007

Dr. Reiss becomes the founding president of Mercy Care for the Adirondacks, an effort to provide help and companionship for older people who lived in their own homes.

2010

Dr. Reiss receives The Liberty Bell Award from the Essex County Bar Association.
