1942

Dr. McNeal is born in Glendale, California to Darrell Glenn and Elizabeth Bessie McNeal.

1958

Dr. McNeal serves as an operations officer in the 125th Composite Squadron, and a pilot in the 2848th Air Base Wing of the United States Air Force.

1961

Dr. McNeal becomes a First Lieutenant in the United States Air Force at Norton AFB in San Bernardino, California.

1961

Dr. McNeal serves as a horse handler in the Animal Husbandry Department of California State Polytechnic University.

1962

Dr. McNeal marries Nancy Coles Wilkie.

1964

Dr. McNeal receives a Bachelor of Science in animal husbandry from California State Polytechnic University.

1964

Dr. McNeal becomes co-owner and manager of Quaking Aspen Ranch.

1966

While serving as a graduate research assistant, Dr. McNeal receives a Master of Science in animal breeding and range management from the University of Nevada, Reno.

1966

Dr. McNeal becomes certified in radiological monitoring by the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Defense.

1969

Dr. McNeal becomes a professor in the Animal Science Department of California State Polytechnic University.

1972

Dr. McNeal becomes a seasonal staff scientist at the United States Sheep Experiment Station of the Department of Agriculture.

1977

Dr. McNeal becomes founding director of the Navajo Sheep Project at Utah State University. He is credited with saving and breeding the Navajo-Churro sheep for the benefit of Navajo and Hispanic cultures.

1978

Dr. McNeal receives a Doctor of Philosophy in physiology of reproduction and range science from Utah State University.

1979

Dr. McNeal becomes an associate staff scientist at the International Sheep and Goat Institute, and a professor in the Department of Animal, Dairy, & Veterinary Science at Utah State University.

1980

Dr. McNeal becomes co-founder of the American Polypay Sheep Association.

1999

Dr. McNeal becomes a founding board member of the American Sheep Center.

2002

Dr. McNeal serves as a technical consultant for the Navajo Sheep Project.

2010

Dr. McNeal becomes a certified OFDA Australian Wool Tester through the American Sheep Industry Association.

2018

Dr. McNeal receives the USU Robbins Award of Undergraduate Faculty Member of the Year.

2018

Dr. McNeal is honored with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award from Marquis Who’s Who.
