A Timeline of Professional Milestones

1937

Dr. Hansel is born in New York City, New York to Gordon and Edith Hansel.

1955

Dr. Hansel graduates with honors from Brooklyn Technical High School.

1959

Dr. Hansel graduates with high honors from the Stevens Institute Technology, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Engineering.

1960

Dr. Hansel receives a Master of Science in mechanical engineering from the Stevens Institute of Technology.

1964

Dr. Hansel receives a Doctor of Science from the Stevens Institute of Technology and becomes a member of the research faculty at the Guggenheim Laboratories at Princeton University.

1967

Dr. Hansel authors “Theory of Experiments,” the first of a total of 46 technical publications.

1969

Dr. Hansel becomes a research engineer at ExxonMobil Research and Engineering Company in Linden, New Jersey.

1970

Dr. Hansel serves as a visiting lecturer of mechanical engineering at the Stevens Institute of Technology.

1972

Dr. Hansel becomes the manager of new automotive exhaust gas catalyst evaluation at BASF Corporation in Menlo Park, New Jersey.

1976

Dr. Hansel becomes an adjunct associate professor at Columbia University in New York.

1976

Dr. Hansel is recognized for leadership in commercialization of the exhaust gas catalyst at BASF Corporation, with more than two billion utilized up to 2015.

1981

Dr. Hansel becomes a senior engineering associate at Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

1987

Dr. Hansel is recognized for industrial gas safety engineering and he receives the first of a total of eight patents at Air Products and Chemicals, Inc.

1992

Dr. Hansel becomes a visiting professor of chemical and mechanical engineering at The Pennsylvania State University.

1996

Dr. Hansel begins an 18-year long advisory role at the Lehigh Career and Technical Institute in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania.

1998

Dr. Hansel, while at Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., establishes the hydrogen safety practices for fuel cell vehicles within the automotive industry worldwide.

2007

Dr. Hansel retires from Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. and takes on a consulting role for eight years.

2016

Dr. Hansel is appointed to the Lehigh Valley Health Network’s advisory councils on safety and innovation.
