1936

Dr. Itkin is born in New York, New York to Abraham Aaron and Eda Itkin.

1956

Dr. Itkin receives a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute (now the NYU Tandon School of Engineering) in Brooklyn, New York.

1957

Dr. Itkin receives a master’s degree in nuclear engineering from New York University.

1957

Dr. Itkin becomes an associate scientist at the Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory of Westinghouse Electric Corporation in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

1959

Dr. Itkin is promoted to a full scientist at Westinghouse Electric Corporation.

1964

Dr. Itkin receives a Doctor of Philosophy in mathematics from the University of Pittsburgh and is also promoted to senior scientist at Westinghouse Electric Corporation.

1966

Dr. Itkin serves as an election judge in the 19th District of the 14th Ward of Pennsylvania.

1970

Dr. Itkin is appointed chairman of the 14th Ward Democratic Committee in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

1971

Dr. Itkin becomes a Fellow Scientist of Westinghouse Electric Corporation.

1973

Dr. Itkin is elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

1982

Dr. Itkin serves as Majority Caucus Chairman of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

1983

Dr. Itkin receives the Award of Appreciation from the National Federation for the Blind, the Keystone Award from the Alcoholism and Addiction Association and he is named House Member of the Year by the Pennsylvania Jewish Coalition.

1986

Dr. Itkin receives the Distinguished Service Award from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry.

1988

Dr. Itkin is appointed chairman of the Science, Technology, and Resource Planning Committee for the National Conference of State Legislators in Denver, Colorado.

1994

Dr. Itkin is presented with an honorary Doctor of Philosophy in public service from Chatham College.

1998

Dr. Itkin is elected as the Democratic Nominee for Pennsylvania Governor by the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

1999

Dr. Itkin is appointed director of the Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste Management of the U.S. Department of Energy in Washington, D.C.
