1938

Dr. Orenstein is born in New York City, New York to Louis Glass and Gertrude Feman.

1959

Dr. Orenstein graduates magna cum laude from Brandeis University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in romance languages and literature.

1961

Dr. Orenstein receives a Master of Arts in Slavic languages and literature from the Radcliffe Graduate School of Harvard University.

1965

Dr. Orenstein receives a Graduate Fellowship for Women from the Danforth Foundation.

1971

Dr. Orenstein receives a Doctor of Philosophy in Comparative Literature from New York University.

1974

Dr. Orenstein authors “The Theatre of the Marvelous and the Contemporary Stage.”

1974

Dr. Orenstein serves as a coadjutant in English and Women’s Studies at Douglass College of Rutgers University.

1974

Dr. Orenstein co-founds the Women’s Salon for Literature in New York City.

1975

Dr. Orenstein becomes an assistant English professor at Douglass Residential College.

1976

Dr. Orenstein is appointed Chairperson of the Women’s Studies Program at Douglass College.

1978

Dr. Orenstein is appointed director of The Rutgers Junior Year in France at Douglass College.

1979

Dr. Orenstein co-creates the Ecofeminist Conference at the University of Southern California.

1982

Dr. Orenstein becomes a tenured Professor in the Department of Comparative Literature and Gender Studies at the University of Southern California.

1985

Dr. Orenstein is appointed President of the Division on Relations of Literature and the Other Arts of The Modern Language Association.

1990

Dr. Orenstein authors “The Reflowering of the Goddess” and “Reweaving the World: The Emergence of ECO-Feminism.”

2003

Dr. Orenstein receives a Medal and Certificate of Honor from The Veteran Feminists of America.

2018

Dr. Orenstein receives the Lifetime Achievement Award from Women’s Caucus of the College Art Association and “Gloria’s Call,” a film about her research on the women of Surrealism, is launched at the WCA Conference. The film is shown at many film festivals, in places such as Los Angeles, California and Vienna, Austria.

2018

Dr. Orenstein gives a speech to launch the opening of the Leonora Carrington Museum in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. She also presents at the panel for the Leonora Carrington Exhibition in Mexico City at the Museo de Arte Moderno.

2018

Dr. Orenstein is honored with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award from Marquis Who’s Who.
