1937

Dr. Martin is born in New Bedford, Massachusetts to Theodore Tripp and Elinor Louise Martin.

1959

Dr. Martin receives a Bachelor of Arts from Yale University.

1961

Dr. Martin receives a Master of Education from Harvard University and becomes a teacher for Newton Public Schools in Newton, Massachusetts.

1962

Dr. Martin marries Susan Katherine Orowan.

1968

Dr. Martin receives a Certificate of Advanced Study from Harvard University and becomes a Teaching Assistant at Boston College.

1969

Dr. Martin becomes an Assistant Principal for Newton Public Schools.

1970

Dr. Martin becomes the Curriculum Director of Beverly Public Schools in Beverly, Massachusetts.

1971

Dr. Martin receives a Doctor of Philosophy from Boston College.

1973

Dr. Martin becomes a Principal in the Mill Valley School District in Mill Valley, California.

1975

Dr. Martin becomes the Curriculum Director of the Mill Valley School District and serves as a consultant for Curriculum Development Associates in Washington, D.C.

1978

Dr. Martin is appointed Chairman of the Department of Education at the Dominican University of California and becomes a professional trainer in the Instrumental Enrichment Cognitive-Education Program.

1978

Dr. Martin begins training teacher and parent groups in higher-level thinking skills, eventually bringing his skills to 13 states and three countries.

1980

Dr. Martin becomes Coordinator of Undergraduate Teacher Education at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C.

1985

Dr. Martin is appointed dean of the School of Education and Human Services at Gallaudet University.

1995

Dr. Martin becomes a Professor of education at Gallaudet University.

1995

Dr. Martin authors the first of many research articles, chapters, and books in the fields of teacher education, social studies instruction, curriculum development, and deaf education.

2002

Dr. Martin becomes Professor Emeritus and Dean Emeritus at Gallaudet University.

2005

Dr. Martin becomes a Visiting Professor at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa.

2006

Dr. Martin receives the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association of College Educators – Deaf and Hard of Hearing (ACE-DHH) and becomes an Adjunct Professor of critical and creative thinking at the University of Massachusetts Boston.

2015

Dr. Martin authors “Post-Secondary Strategies for Deaf Learners” and is named an Outstanding Genealogical Volunteer by the New England Regional Genealogical Consortium.
