Born to David Shem Junior and Mary Louise Davis in Scranton, PA.

1960

Becomes a registered nurse in Philadelphia, PA.

1960

Is a charge nurse at Presbyterian Hospital in New York City.

1962

Earns a Bachelor of Science in pre-medical studies from Columbia University.

1962

Is a supervisor at Gracie Square Hospital in New York City.

1963

Is the chair of medical/surgical nursing at St. Catherine’s Hospital School in Brooklyn, NY.

1963

Earns a Master of Arts in education from Columbia University.

1966

Is a special education teacher within New York City public schools.

1969

Earns a Master of Arts in family life and sex counseling from New York University.

1970

Teaches as a professor at the City University of New York and Hunter College in New York City through 1997.

1970

Co-authors three books, publishes three pieces of phenomenological research and various writing in journals until retiring in 1998.
