1943

Dr. MacInnes is born in Abington, Pennsylvania to David and Emma Kathleen MacInnes.

1965

Dr. MacInnes receives a Bachelor of Arts from Earlham College.

1970

Dr. MacInnes receives a Master of Arts from Princeton University and becomes a chemistry teacher at Westtown School in Pennsylvania.

1972

Dr. MacInnes receives a Doctor of Philosophy from Princeton University.

1973

Dr. MacInnes marries Barbara Ellen Hardy MacInnes and becomes an assistant professor at Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina.

1980

Dr. MacInnes becomes a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Pennsylvania.

1981

Dr. MacInnes receives the American Chemical Society’s Doolitte Award.

1982

Dr. MacInnes is promoted to associate professor of chemistry at Guilford College.

1982

Dr. MacInnes receives a grant from the Lindbergh Society.

1982

Dr. MacInnes serves as a visiting associate chemist at Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton, New York.

1986

Dr. MacInnes is elected chair of the Central Carolina section of the American Chemical Society.

1987

Dr. MacInnes serves as a visiting professor at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, Canada.

1991

Dr. MacInnes is promoted to full professor of chemistry at Guilford College.

1994

Dr. MacInnes receives North Carolina Outstanding Chemist Award from the American Institute of Chemists.

1996

Dr. MacInnes becomes a visiting material scientist at NASA Langley Research Center and is appointed visiting professor at William and Mary College.

2005

Dr. MacInnes becomes a visiting professor at the University of Oregon.

2011

Dr. MacInnes earns the title Professor Emeritus at Guilford College.

2011

Dr. MacInnes becomes a professional woodworker with works in several galleries.

2016

Dr. MacInnes becomes a volunteer docent at the Greensboro Science Center.
