1939

Dr. Moore is born in Boston, Massachusetts to Charles Walden and Dorothy Moore.

1960

Dr. Moore marries Penelope Williamson Percival and graduates magna cum laude from Harvard University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts and becoming a pre-doctoral fellow of the National Science Foundation.

1963

Dr. Moore receives a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of California, Berkeley, where he becomes an assistant professor of chemistry.

1968

Dr. Moore is promoted to associate professor at the University of California, Berkeley.

1969

Dr. Moore becomes a fellow of the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation and the Guggenheim Foundation.

1971

Dr. Moore is appointed vice chairman of the department at the University California, Berkeley.

1972

Dr. Moore is promoted to full professor at the University of California, Berkeley.

1973

Dr. Moore becomes a member of the editorial board of the Journal Chemical Physics.

1977

Dr. Moore receives the California Section Award from the American Chemical Society.

1979

Dr. Moore serves as a visiting professor at the Institute of Molecular Science in Okazaki, Japan and Fudan University in Shanghai, China.

1982

Dr. Moore is appointed chairman of the Department of Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley.

1985

Dr. Moore serves as the associate editor of the Annual Review of Physical Chemistry.

1986

Dr. Moore receives the E.O. Lawrence Memorial Award from the U.S. Department of Energy.

1988

Dr. Moore is appointed dean of the College of Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley.

1993

Dr. Moore is appointed chairman of the Committee of Undergraduate Science Education at the National Academy of Sciences.

1994

Dr. Moore serves as a visiting professor in Germany at the University of Goettingen and the University of Heidelberg.

2000

Dr. Moore earns the title of Professor Emeritus at the University of California, Berkeley and becomes president and chairman of the board of the Ohio State University Research Foundation.

2000

Dr. Moore becomes a Distinguished Professor of Mathematics and Physical Science and a professor of chemistry at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.

2003

Dr. Moore becomes a professor of chemistry and vice president of research at Northwestern University.

2008

Dr. Moore earns the title of Professor Emeritus at Northwestern University.
