A Timeline of Professional Milestones

1934

Dr. Brings is born in Brooklyn, New York to Adam and Elfrieda Brings.

1955

Dr. Brings graduates magna cum laude from Queens College, receiving a Bachelor of Arts.

1957

Dr. Brings receives a Master of Arts from Columbia University and joins the U.S. Army.

1959

Dr. Brings marries Genevieve Chinn and begins his career as an instructor of music at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York.

1960

Dr. Bring becomes a teaching fellow at Boston University and serves as a teacher and associate director at the Weston Music Center and School of the Performing Arts in Weston, Connecticut.

1962

Dr. Brings becomes a Naumburg Fellow at Princeton University.

1963

Dr. Brings is engaged as a member of the faculty of the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College of the City University of New York.

1964

Dr. Brings receives a Doctor of Musical Arts from Boston University.

1968

Dr. Brings serves as chairman of Region II of the Society of Composers, Inc.

1975

Dr. Brings composes “Tre Sonetti di Michelangelo Buonarotti” and is accepted as a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP).

1983

Dr. Brings receives the John Castellini Silver Jubilee Award from the Choral Society of Queens College.

1984

Dr. Brings composes “Trio for Clarinet, Cello & Piano” and “Colloquies for Flute, Clarinet & Piano.”

1988

Dr. Brings receives a grant from the Connecticut Commission on the Arts.

1990

Dr. Brings composes “Sinfonia da Camera.”

2013

Dr. Brings composes “Projections,” “All at Once,” “Duologue 15,” “Varied Intensities,” and “2 by 4.”

2014

Dr. Brings composes “A Linear Engagement,” “Duologue 17,” “From Within and Without.”

2015

Dr. Brings composes “Again and Again,” “Touch and Go,” “Not So Serious,” “Quartet for Flute, Violin, Viola & Cello,” “Notable Declamations,” and “High and Low.”

2016

Dr. Brings composes “Four Differential Equations,” “A Linear Pursuit,” “Etchings,” “Reverie,” “Duologue 18,” “Sonata for Two Violins,” and “To the Point.”

2017

Dr. Brings composes “All Around and About,” “3 Scintellae,” “Duo for Flute and Piano,” and “4 Revelations of Varying Intensities.” He is also honored with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award from Marquis Who’s Who.

2018

Dr. Brings composes “Duologue 18b,” “A Poetic Reflection,” “A Kinetic Encounter,” “Cadenzas 1,2,3,4, & 5,” and “Trialogue for Flute, Viola, & Piano.”
