1932

Mr. Miller is born in Fairfax, Virginia to Francis Pickens and Helen Miller.

1954

Mr. Miller graduates magna cum laude from Princeton University, receiving an atrium baccalaurei.

1954

Mr. Miller studies postgraduate courses at New College of the University of Oxford in England.

1955

Mr. Miller serves in the United States Army as a first lieutenant in the Republic of Korea.

1960

Mr. Miller receives a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Virginia where he was editor-in-chief of the Virginia Law Review.

1963

Mr. Miller is promoted to partner at Penn, Stuart & Miller in Abingdon, Virginia.

1969

Mr. Miller, having been admitted in 1967 to the U.S. Supreme Court Bar, is elected attorney general of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

1971

Mr. Miller is named a fellow of the American Bar Foundation, a member of the House of Delegates of the American Bar Association, and chairman of the antitrust committee of the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG).

1973

Mr. Miller is elected chairman of NAAG’s Southern Conference of Attorneys General.

1976

Mr. Miller receives the Kelley-Wyman Award from the NAAG.

1977

Mr. Miller becomes a partner at Mays, Valentine, Davenport & Moore in Richmond, Virginia.

1978

Mr. Miller is the Democratic candidate for the United States Senate from Virginia.

1979

Mr. Miller becomes a partner at Dickstein, Shapiro, Morin & Oshinsky, LLP in Washington, D.C.

1985

Mr. Miller joins the executive committee of the Virginia Bar Association.

1987

Mr. Miller acts as founder and president of the John Marshall Foundation.

1995

Mr. Miller is elected secretary-general of the Society of the Cincinnati.

2002

Mr. Miller becomes a partner at Powell Goldstein LLP in Washington, D.C.

2008

Mr. Miller serves as vice president of the National Maritime Heritage Foundation.

2009

Mr. Miller becomes a counsel at Hunton & Williams LLP in Washington, D.C.

2019

Mr. Miller is named president of the Coalition to Preserve an Independent Supreme Court.
