1959
Dr. Mahajan graduates with the high honors from Panjab University in Chandigarh, India, receiving a Bachelor of Science.
1961
Dr. Mahajan graduates with honors from the Indian Institute of Science with a Bachelor of Engineering in metallurgy. He begins his career as a research assistant at the University of California, Berkeley.
1965
Dr. Mahajan receives a Doctor of Philosophy in materials science and engineering from the University of California and marries Sushma Sondhi. He also becomes a research metallurgist at the University of Denver.
1968
Dr. Mahajan becomes a Harwell Fellow at the Atomic Energy Research Establishment in Harwell, England.
1971
Dr. Mahajan joins the technology staff at AT&T Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill, New Jersey.
1981
Dr. Mahajan is promoted to research manager at AT&T Bell Laboratories.
1983
Dr. Mahajan becomes a professor of material science and engineering in the Electronic Materials Department at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
1989
Dr. Mahajan joins the Materials Research Advisory Committee in the Division of Materials Research at the National Science Foundation.
1991
Dr. Mahajan serves as a visiting professor at the University of Antwerp in Belgium.
1993
Dr. Mahajan joins the site panel of the Materials Research Laboratory and serves as a visiting professor at Ecole Centrale de Lyon in Ecully, France.
1994
Dr. Mahajan edits “Handbook on Semiconductors, Volume 3.”
1997
Dr. Mahajan becomes a professor of electronic materials at Arizona State University.
1999
Dr. Mahajan is appointed to associate chairman of Arizona State University.
2000
Dr. Mahajan is appointed department chairman of chemicals and materials engineering at Arizona State University.
2006
Dr. Mahajan becomes director of school materials at Arizona State University.
2007
Dr. Mahajan is named a Regents Professor at Arizona State University.
2009
Dr. Mahajan becomes a Fulton Technology Fellow at the Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering.
2011
Dr. Mahajan becomes the special advisor to the chancellor at the University of California, Davis, where he is also named a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science.
2016
Dr. Mahajan co-authors the article “Formation of Dislocation Channels in a Neutron Irradiated Molybdenum.”
2017
Dr. Mahajan is honored with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award from Marquis Who’s Who.
