Born to Ryuji Ueda and Takao (Hamaguchi) Ueda in Osaka, Japan.

1966

Earns a BS in chemistry from Kyoto University; Is a teaching fellow in the Dept. of Biological Chemistry at the University of Michigan until 1970.

1970

Marries Yasuko Amano on January 11.

1971

Obtains a PhD in biological chemistry from the University of Michigan; Is a postdoctoral associate in the Dept. of Pharmacology at Yale University until 1974.

1974

Is a National Institute of Mental Health Postdoctoral Fellow and research assoc. in the Dept. of Pharmacology at Yale University until 1978.

1978

Serves the University of Michigan as an assistant, associate and full professor of pharmacology until 2016.

1978

Serves the Mental Health Research Institute at the University of Michigan as an assistant, associate and senior research scientist until 2003.

1979

Becomes a member of the Society for Neuroscience, International Society for Neurochemistry and American Society for Neurochemistry.

1982

Becomes a member of the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

1983

Discovers the ATP-dependent glutamate uptake system in synaptic vesicle.

1984

Is named to Personalities of America, Men of Achievement, Biographical Roll of Honor, First Five Hundred and World Biographical Hall of Fame through 1986.

1988

Receives the National Institutes of Health Javits Neuroscience Investigator Award.

1990

Serves on the editorial board of the “Journal of Molecular Neuroscience” until 1993.

1994

Receives the University of Michigan Senior Research Scientist Lectureship Award.

1997

Becomes a member of the American Chemical Society; Purification and characterization of Protein I, now known as, Synapsin I.

2000

Receives a U.S. patent for composition and methods for the inhibition of neurotransmitter uptake of synaptic vesicles.

2003

Is a research professor at the Molecular & Behavioral Neuroscience Institute at the University of Michigan and continues in the role.

2014

Serves on the editorial board of “Neurochemical Research” and continues in the role.

2016

Is named research professor emeritus and professor of pharmacology emeritus at the University of Michigan.
