A Timeline of Professional Milestones 

1942

Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to George Herbert and Marion Bertha de Harter.

1959

Graduates from Salvatorian Seminary in Wisconsin and enters the Jesuit Order on September 3 as a novice in the Wisconsin Province. 

1960

Matriculates at Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in the College of Letters and Science.

1962

Is a pre-med student at UW-Milwaukee, graduates three years later with high honors, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, and a Bachelor of Arts.

1964

Marries Diane Leigh Kuebler and matriculates at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine in Madison, Wisconsin.

1968

Earns a Doctor of Medicine, with honors, and begins a rotating internship at the U.S. Naval Hospital, National Naval Medical Center.

1969

Completes the internship and begins his service with the U.S. Navy in Charleston, South Carolina.

1972

Honorably discharged as LCDR, MC, USN, enters residency in therapeutic radiology and oncology at the MDACC in Houston, Texas.

1974

Wins first prize in the MDACC Annual Clinical Training Research Project Competition for fellows, residents, and project investigators.

1975

Completes the residency in radiation oncology at MDACC, is board certified, and is an attending radiation oncologist.

1977

Is director of radiation oncology at Bishop Clarkson Memorial Hospital and is an assistant clinical professor of radiation oncology.

1978

Is director of radiation oncology at CHI Health Immanuel, Lutheran Hospital, and Lutheran Community Hospital.

1983

Serves as president of a division of the American Cancer Society.

1994

Joins Oncology Services Corporation and is director of radiation oncology at Flagstaff Medical Center, Northern Arizona Healthcare.

1996

Is head of operations and director of radiation oncology at TCCC. Is director of radiation oncology at two TCCC locations.

2010

Retires. With his wife, Diane, he establishes the Phoenix Fund endowment at the MD Anderson Cancer Center, among other philanthropy.

2017

Doctor de Harter receives the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award from Marquis Who’s Who.

2019

Loses Diane Leigh de Harter, his wife, best friend, business partner, and lover.

2022

Marries Susan Ellen Hunt and establishes his virtual galerie MOTO.
