Dr. Federman is born in New York, New York to Joseph M. and Adele L. Federman.
1971
Dr. Federman receives a Bachelor of Science from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn (now New York University Tandon School of Engineering).
1972
Dr. Federman becomes a senior research technician at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.
1976
Dr. Federman receives a Master of Science from New York University.
1979
Dr. Federman receives a Doctor of Philosophy from New York University.
1979
Dr. Federman becomes a postdoctoral fellow at New York University and then at the University of Texas at Austin.
1983
Dr. Federman becomes a lecturer at the University of Texas at Austin, as well as a National Research Council associate at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.
1985
Dr. Federman becomes a member of Technical Staff at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
1986
Dr. Federman marries Ellen Sue Vinson.
1988
Dr. Federman becomes an assistant professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Toledo.
1993
Dr. Federman is promoted to associate professor at the University of Toledo.

Dr. Federman is promoted to full professor at the University of Toledo.

Dr. Federman becomes a fellow of the American Physical Society.

Dr. Federman is appointed president of Commission 14 (Atomic and Molecular Data) of the International Astronomical Union.

Dr. Federman becomes technical editor of atomic and molecular spectroscopy for the Journal of the Optical Society of America B.

Dr. Federman becomes scientific editor of The Astrophysical Journal.

Dr. Federman serves as chair of the Laboratory Astrophysics Division pf the American Astronomical Society.
