Dr. Marr is born in Taiwan to Chieh-Ying and Jhen Ma.
1957
Dr. Marr receives a science degree equivalent to a Bachelor of Science from the National Taipei University of Technology in Taipei, Taiwan.
1959
Dr. Marr becomes an assistant engineer at Taiwan Sugar Corporation.
1961
Dr. Marr immigrates to the United States.
1962
Dr. Marr marries Jane J. Liu in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
1963
Dr. Marr receives a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Marquette University and becomes a senior engineering analyst at Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing Co. in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
1969
Dr. Marr receives a Doctor of Philosophy in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and becomes an energy engineer at the Argonne National Laboratory in DuPage County, Illinois.
1972
Metropolitan Chicago names Dr. Marr an Outstanding New Citizen of the Year.
1981
Dr. Marr receives the Wu Cho-liu New Poetry Award from the Taiwan Literature Association and the Translation Award from the Li Poetry Society.
1984
Dr. Marr receives the Creative Poetry Award from the Li Poetry Society in Taiwan.
1988
Dr. Marr edits and publishes two anthologies of modern Chinese poetry in Taiwan.
1989
Dr. Marr edits and publishes three anthologies of modern Taiwanese poetry in China.
1993
Dr. Marr is appointed president of the Illinois State Poetry Society.
2008
Celebrating the 2008 Summer Olympics Games, Dr. Marr participates in an art exhibition in Beijing, China.
2009
Shenyang, China’s Poetry Tide Magazine awards Dr. Marr the First Translation Award.
2010
Dr. Marr wins the 30th World Congress of Poets poetry competition in Taipei, Taiwan.
2016
Dr. Marr wins the DCC Cup of World Chinese Poetry Contest and the Han-Jiang Poetry Festival’s Modern Poetry Contest, both held in China.
2017
The inaugural award of the William W. Marr Graduate Scholarship in Creative Writing is given at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
2018
Dr. Marr receives the Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Committee of Literature and Arts in Italy.
2019
The Taiwan Chinese Literature and Art Association presents Dr. Marr with the Chinese Literary Medal.
