Dr. Serwatka receives a Bachelor of Arts from Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, Ohio, and begins a career in teaching pre/secondary school children who are deaf and hearing impaired.
1973
Dr. Serwatka receives a Master of Education in the education of deaf students from Kent State University.
1975
Dr. Serwatka receives a Master of Education in the education of deaf students from Kent State University.
1976
Dr. Serwatka receives a Doctor of Philosophy in special education from Kent State University.
1980
Dr. Serwatka is recognized as a faculty member contributing the most to the education of disabled students in the State University System Board of Regents.
1985
Dr. Serwatka receives the Honors of the Organization Award from the Florida Educators of the Hearing Impaired.
1991
Dr. Serwatka is appointed as one of the first co-chairs for First Coast Consortium for AIDS Research, Education and Services (CARES).
1995
Dr. Serwatka becomes associate dean of the UNF College of Education and Human Services.

Dr. Serwatka is the lead author of “Correlates of the Overrepresentation of African-American Students in Classes for the Emotionally Disturbed,” for the Journal of Black Studies.
1998
Dr. Serwatka presents “Gay Teens Continue to Seroconvert: Preparing Educators to Prevent HIV/AIDS” at the National Association of Colleges for Teacher Education in Honolulu, Hawaii.
2000
Dr. Serwatka co-authors “Student Perceptions and Instructional Effectiveness of Deaf and Hearing Teachers” in the American Annals of the Deaf.
2001
Dr. Serwatka becomes the graduate dean and associate vice president for Academic Affairs at the University of North Florida.
2004
Dr. Serwatka is selected as the vice president and chief of staff at the University of North Florida.
2010
Dr. Serwatka authors “Queer Questions, Clear Answers: The Contemporary Debates on Sexual Orientation,” published by Santa Barbara: Praeger.

Dr. Serwatka receives the Voice for Equality Award from Equality Florida.

Dr. Serwatka presents “Out of the School Closet: Creating Safe and Affirming Schools” at the Common Ground Conference in Belfast, Ireland.

Dr. Serwatka receives the Legends Award from The LGBT Resource Center at the University of North Florida.
2012
Dr. Serwatka assumes a leadership role in a five-year campaign to secure the passage of equal protection laws for LGBT citizens in Jacksonville, Florida.
2015
Dr. Serwatka writes “Protections for LGBT Residents and City Economies” in the International Journal of Community Diversity.
2018
Dr. Serwatka is named a Person of Influence by the LGBT Fund of the Jacksonville Community Funds.
