Born to John Joseph Greytak and Cecilia Felicia (Schwartz) Greytak in Annapolis, MD.

1963

Earns a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

1966

Marries Elizabeth “Betsy” Ann Bardeen.

1967

Obtains a Doctor of Philosophy in physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

1967

Teaches as an instructor, assistant professor and associate professor of physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology until 1977.

1967

Carries out an experimental program in low temperature physics through 2011.

1971

Is an Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellow until 1973.

1972

Is a visiting scientist in the physics department at the University of California, San Diego until 1973.

1977

Teaches as a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology until retiring in 2011.

1988

Serves as head of the Division of Atomic, Condensed Matter and Plasma Physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology until 1997.

1993

Receives the Buechner Teaching Prize.
