Dr. Burstein is born in Brooklyn, New York to Moe and Anna Burstein.
1954
Dr. Burstein receives a Bachelor of Arts with distinction from the University of Michigan.
1958
Dr. Burstein receives a Doctor of Medicine from SUNY Downstate Medical Center and becomes surgical intern at The Johns Hopkins Hospital Center.
1959
Dr. Burstein joins the United States Navy Medical Corps, rising in the ranks to Lieutenant.
1961
Dr. Burstein becomes a Neurosurgery Fellow at the Mayo Clinic with the Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research (MFMER) in Rochester, Minnesota.
1961
Dr. Burstein joins the American Medical Association and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
1963
Dr. Burstein authors “Neoplasms of the Reticuloendothelial System of the Brain Cancer,” published in the Abridgement of Thesis by the University of Minnesota.
1965
Dr. Burstein receives a Master of Science in neurosurgery from the University of Minnesota and he joins the Congress of Neurological Surgeons.
1965
Dr. Burstein receives the Neurosurgical Travel Award from the Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research (MFMER).
1969
Dr. Burstein is certified as a Diplomate by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and he joins the New York Society of Neurosurgery.
1970
Dr. Burstein joins the American Association of Neurosurgical Surgery and the Nassau Surgical Society.
1972
Dr. Burstein marries Ronnie Sue Deutsch.
1980
Dr. Burstein is appointed president of the medical staff and chief of the Department of Neurosurgery at South Nassau Community Hospital in Oceanside, New York.
2017
Dr. Burstein is honored with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award from Marquis Who’s Who.
