1961

Dr. Newcom graduates from Berkeley High School.

1965

Dr. Newcom graduates from the University of California Berkeley and Santa Barbara with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology.

1969

Dr. Newcom receives a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Southern California and becomes an intern with the U.S. Public Health Service in Staten Island, New York.

1970

Dr. Newcom becomes a resident at the University of Southern California.

1972

Dr. Newcom becomes a fellow of the University of California San Francisco.

1974

Dr. Newcom becomes an instructor of medicine at the University of Oregon and a medical oncologist and hematologist at Portland Clinic in Portland, Oregon.
