1950
Dr. Menefee is born in Denver, Colorado to George Hardiman and Martha Elizabeth Menefee.
1972
Dr. Menefee graduates summa cum laude from Yale University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology with highest honors and Scholar of the House with distinction. He also receives a Rhodes Scholarship.
1973
Dr. Menefee receives a Diploma in Social Anthropology from Oxford University in England.
1975
Dr. Menefee receives a Bachelor of Letters from Oxford University in England.
1981
Dr. Menefee receives a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Harvard University, is admitted to practice in the state of Georgia, and authors “Wives for Sale: An Ethnographic Study of British Popular Divorce.”
1982
Dr. Menefee receives a Master of Laws from the University of Virginia and becomes a Fellow of the Center for Oceans Law and Policy at the University of Virginia School of Law. He also receives the Katherine Briggs Prize for “Wives for Sale.”
1983
Dr. Menefee is admitted to practice in the states of Virginia and Louisiana, and becomes an associate at Phelps, Dunbar, Marks, Claverie & Sims in New Orleans, Louisiana.
1985
Dr. Menefee becomes a Senior Fellow at the Center for Oceans Law and Policy and a Senior Associate at the Center for National Security Law. He also serves of Counsel at Barham & Churchill PC and is admitted to practice in the states of Florida, Nebraska, in Washington, D.C., and by the Supreme Court of the United States.
1986
Dr. Menefee is admitted to practice in the states of Maine and Pennsylvania.
1989
Dr. Menefee becomes a Maury Fellow at the Center for Oceans Law and Policy.
1991
Dr. Menefee is appointed Cosmos Fellow at the School of Scottish Studies at the University of Edinburgh, and International Maritime Bureau (IMB) Fellow at the International Chamber of Commerce – International Maritime Bureau in London, England.
1993
Dr. Menefee receives a Doctor of Juridical Science from the University of Virginia.
1994
Dr. Menefee serves as a law clerk for the Honorable Pasco M. Bowman in the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.
1995
Dr. Menefee receives a Master of Philosophy in International Relations from the University of Cambridge in England and authors “Contemporary Piracy and International Law.”
1996
Dr. Menefee authors “Trends in Maritime Violence.”
1997
Dr. Menefee joins the Advisory Boards of the Center for Oceans Law and Policy and the Center for National Security Law. He is also named a Huntingdon Fellow of the Mariner’s Museum in Newport News, Virginia.
1998
Dr. Menefee becomes a Professor at Regent University School of Law and is named Rapporteur of the Joint International Working Group on Uniformity of the Law of Piracy.
