Ms. Ballweg earns a Bachelor of Science in sociology and a Bachelor of Art from Southern Oregon University.
1978
Ms. Ballweg enters the Graduate MEDEX Northwest Physician Assistant Program at the University of Washington in Seattle, and becomes a physician assistant in family medicine at the practice of M.K. Gooding, MD in Ashland, Oregon.
1980
Ms. Ballweg becomes a physician assistant at Bremerton Kitsap County Health Department in Bremerton, Washington.
1985
Ms. Ballweg takes on the role of director of the physician assistant program at MEDEX Northwest.
1987
Ms. Ballweg receives the Distinguished Service Award from the National Indian Health Board.
1988
Ms. Ballweg serves as president of the Washington Academy of Physician Assistants.
1991
Ms. Ballweg serves as president of the Physician Assistant Education Association and receives the UPJOHN Presidential Award from the Association of Physician Assistant Programs.
1992
Ms. Ballweg becomes a Primary Care Health Policy Fellow with the Bureau of Health Professionals.
1994
Ms. Ballweg serves on the national advisory board of the National Health Service Corps.
1994
Ms. Ballweg serves as the editor of Physician Assistant: A Guide to Clinical Practice, published in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by W.B. Saunders and later, Elsevier.
1995
Ms. Ballweg joins the executive committee at the School of Medicine at the University of Washington.
1996
Ms. Ballweg is invited as a graduation speaker for numerous physician assistant programs at universities across the country, which she continues to attend throughout her career.
1997
Ms. Ballweg receives a Master of Public Administration from the University of Washington and is presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the MEDEX Alumni Association.
1997
Ms. Ballweg serves as a commissioner for the Pew Commission on the Health Professions with the Center for Health Professions at the University of California at San Francisco.
1999
Ms. Ballweg is presented with an Honorary LLD from Barry University.
2001
Ms. Ballweg serves as commissioner of the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
2004
Ms. Ballweg becomes the director of international affairs for the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
2006
Ruth Ballweg receives the Outstanding Civilian of the Year award from the Veterans Caucus of the American Academy of Physician Assistants. She is also awarded for Outstanding Contributions to Rural Health by the Washington Rural Health Association.
2015
Ms. Ballweg serves as board chair of Group Health Cooperative and receives the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Physician Assistant Education Association.
2016
Ms. Ballweg co-edits 50th anniversary articles for the Journal of the American Academy of Physician Assistants.
