Is born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Francis M. Darter and Bertha Van Mondfrans Darter.

1963

Begins his career as a civil engineer with the Utah Department of Transportation until 1970.

1966

Completes a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering at the University of Utah.

1968

Earns a Master of Science in civil engineering from the University of Utah.

1973

Graduates from the University of Texas at Austin with a Doctor of Philosophy in civil engineering.

1973

Is a professor of civil and environmental engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign through 2003.

1975

Works at the U.S. Army Construction Engineering Laboratory until 1982.

1980

Is the co-founder of ERES Consultants Inc. until 1999.

1999

Is the principal engineer for Applied Research Associates Inc. until 2022.

2003

Holds the designation of emeritus professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign through today.

2006

Serves as executive director of the Pavement Research Institute until 2010.

2010

Serves as the vice president of the 95th Bomb Group Memorials Foundation until 2016.

2010

Is the engineer of record for the CORE I-15 Highway Construction Project with the Utah Department of Transportation until 2012.

2014
