Receives a Bachelor of Science in mathematics and Spanish from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.

Serves as a mathematics teacher at Brownsville High School until 1970.

1971

Serves from the role of inspector to port director at the U.S. Customs and Border Protection in Texas until his retirement in 2001.

1971

Serves as president of Chapter 160 for the National Treasury Employees Union until 1981.

1980

Is a real estate broker until 2013.

1998

Is sponsored by Harvard Professor Malcolm Sparrow for Best U.S. Customs strategic problem-solving project.

Earns a Hammer Award from Vice President Al Gore.
