1924

Dr. Gloria Lindsay Hobbs is born in Bronx, New York to Horace Augustine and Cecilia T. Lindsay.

1945

Dr. Gloria Lindsay Hobbs receives a Bachelor of Arts from Hunter College. A year later, she receives a Master of Arts from Columbia University.

1946

Dr. Gloria Lindsay Hobbs becomes an instructor of foreign languages at St. Philip’s College in San Antonio, Texas.

1951

Dr. Gloria Lindsay Hobbs becomes an assistant professor of foreign languages at Prairie View University.

1955

Dr. Gloria Lindsay Hobbs becomes a full professor of the Foreign Language Department at Texas Southern University.

1956

Dr. Gloria Lindsay Hobbs receives the John Hay Whitney Foundation Award for Graduate Study.

1962

Dr. Gloria Lindsay Hobbs receives the Southern Fellowship Fund Dissertation Award.

1962

Dr. Gloria Lindsay Hobbs is the first African American woman to receive a Doctor of Philosophy from the Department of Foreign Languages of the University of Texas.

1963

Dr. Gloria Lindsay Hobbs receives a post doctorate diploma, mention très bien, from the University of Paris.

1965

Dr. Gloria Lindsay Hobbs becomes an academic administration intern to the president of the University of Texas.

1966

Dr. Gloria Lindsay Hobbs helps to create the Women’s Job Corps Center in McKinney, Texas, where she serves as deputy director for three years.

1969

Dr. Gloria Lindsay Hobbs returns to New York as Associate Dean and professor of modern languages at Bronx Community College, City University of New York.

1973

Dr. Gloria Lindsay Hobbs’ name is given to the Hobbs Business College in Obuasi, Ghana.

1987

Dr. Gloria Lindsay Hobbs fosters three children from Nigeria who now hold a Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Philosophy, and Master of Business Administration from Harvard University.

1991

Dr. Gloria Lindsay Hobbs is named to the Hunter College Alumni Association Hall of Fame.

2002

Dr. Gloria Lindsay receives a proclamation from the New York City Council during her presidency of the Community Bridge Home, Inc. in Queens, New York. She also receives a proclamation in 2004.

2018

Dr. Gloria Lindsay Hobbs receives an honorary Doctor of Letters, honoris causa, at the 125th Anniversary Commencement of Ithaca College.

2018

Dr. Gloria Lindsay Hobbs receives the Albert Nelson Marquis’ Who’s Who Lifetime Achievement Award.

2019

Dr. Gloria Lindsay Hobbs receives the Trailblazer Award from Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. She receives the 2019 Educator of the Year Award from the Ernest Everett Just Foundation, Inc.

2019

Dr. Gloria Lindsay Hobbs is included in the 2019 Edition of Who’s Who in America.
