1932

Dr. Mason is born in Berkeley, California to Ira Jenckes and Florence Mabel Mason.

1954

Dr. Mason receives a Bachelor of Art in chemistry from Duke University.

1957

Dr. Mason marries Maureen O’Brien.

1958

Dr. Mason earns a Doctor of Medicine from Duke University and begins a medical internship at The Johns Hopkins Hospital.

1959

Dr. Mason begins a residency in medicine at the Duke University Medical Center.

1960

Dr. Mason begins a residency in medicine at The Johns Hopkins Hospital.

1961

Dr. Mason becomes a senior assistant surgeon and a clinical associate of the cardiology branch of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute with the National Institutes of Health.

1963

Dr. Mason becomes an attending physician, a senior investigator in the cardiology branch, and the assistant director of the cardiovascular diagnosis section with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.

1968

Dr. Mason joins UC Davis Medical Center as a professor of medicine and physiology, and chief of cardiovascular medicine.

1974

Dr. Mason receives the Skylab Achievement Award from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

1977

Dr. Mason serves as president of the American College of Cardiology.

1980

Dr. Mason serves as editor-in-chief of the “American Heart Journal,” published by Elsevier-Mosby, Inc.

1981

Dr. Mason becomes the first cardiologist to publish a symposium on coronary thrombolysis for patients with myocardial infarction.

1982

Dr. Mason becomes the director of the cardiac center at Cedars Medical Center in Miami, Florida.

1983

Dr. Mason becomes physician-in-chief at St. Mary’s Medical Center Western heart Institute.

1986

Dr. Mason becomes chairman of the department of cardiovascular medicine at St. Mary’s Medical Center.

1987

Dr. Mason is named an honorary professor of medicine at the Peking University Health Science Center in Bejing, China.

2000

Dr. Mason joins the Honorary Medical Staff at St. Mary’s Medical Center.

2004

Dr. Mason receives the Paul Dudley White Award for Distinguished Service in Cardiovascular Medicine.

2017

Dr. Mason is honored with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award and as a Distinguished Humanitarian with Marquis Who’s Who.
