1955

Dr. Tovey is born in Washington, D.C. to Henry and Bella Tovey.

1977

Dr. Tovey graduates magna cum laude from Harvard College, receiving a Bachelor of Arts.

1981

Dr. Tovey receives a Doctor of Philosophy from Stanford University in California and becomes an assistant professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia.

1984

Dr. Tovey serves as a consultant for AT&T Bell Laboratories, Weyerhaeuser Paper Company, and Freddie Mac in Georgia.

1985

Dr. Tovey receives the Presidential Young Investigator Award from the National Science Foundation.

1986

Dr. Tovey is promoted to associate professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

1989

Dr. Tovey receives the Jacob Wolfowitz Prize from the American Journal of Mathematical and Management Sciences.

1990

Dr. Tovey becomes a senior research associate for the National Research Council in Monterey, California.

1993

Dr. Tovey is promoted to full professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

2006

Dr. Tovey serves as co-director of the Center for Biologically Inspired Design (CBID at Georgia Tech) in Atlanta, Georgia.

2017

Dr. Tovey is honored with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award from Marquis Who’s Who.
