1951

Dr. Puliafito is born in Buffalo, New York to Dominic F. and Marie A. Puliafito.

1973

Dr. Puliafito graduates cum laude from Harvard College, receiving a Bachelor of Arts.

1978

Dr. Puliafito graduates magna cum laude from Harvard Medical College, receiving a Doctor of Medicine. He then begins a medical internship at Faulkner Hospital, an affiliate of Tufts University School of Medicine.

1979

Dr. Puliafito begins a residency at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston, Massachusetts.

1982

Dr. Puliafito becomes a retina fellow at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary.

1983

Dr. Puliafito becomes an instructor at Harvard Medical School.

1984

Dr. Puliafito authors “Principles and Practice of Ophthalmic YAG Laser Surgery.”

1985

Dr. Puliafito is promoted to assistant professor at Harvard Medical School.

1987

Dr. Puliafito serves as editor-in-chief of Lasers in Surgery and Medicine.

1989

Dr. Puliafito is promoted to associate professor and director of the Division of Continuing Education in the Department of Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School.

1993

Dr. Puliafito receives the Leon Goldman Award from the Biomedical Optics Society as well as the Man of Vision Award from Boston Aid to the Blind.

1994

Dr. Puliafito receives the Richard and Hinda Rosenthal Award in Visual Sciences as well as the I Migliori Award from the Pirandello Lyceum of Massachusetts.

1994

Dr. Puliafito serves as president of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, and vice president of the Massachusetts Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons.

1995

Dr. Puliafito serves as editor-in-chief of Ophthalmic Surgery and Lasers.

1996

Dr. Puliafito authors “Atlas of Indocyanine Green Angiography,” “Optical Coherence Tomography of Ocular Diseases,” and “Lasers in Surgery and Medicine: Principles and Practice.”

1997

Dr. Puliafito receives a Master of Business Administration from the University of Pennsylvania.

1999

Dr. Puliafito serves as president of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.

2001

Dr. Puliafito becomes director of the Bascon Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida.

2007

Dr. Puliafito is appointed dean of the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California Los Angeles.

2012

Dr. Puliafito receives the Champalimanel Vision Award.
