Dr. Battey is born in Stuttgart, Arkansas to Merl D. and Louise C. Weaver.
1955
Dr. Battey receives a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Wagner College.
1960
Dr. Battey receives a Master of Science in Nursing Education from Vanderbilt University.
1964
Dr. Battey serves as an accreditation site visitor for the National League of Nursing.
1980
Dr. Battey receives a Doctor of Philosophy in Speech Communication and Human Relations from the University of Kansas.
1984
Dr. Battey is appointed assistant dean of the graduate program and becomes a professor of adult health nursing at the East Carolina University College of Nursing.
1989
Dr. Battey authors “Situational Leadership in Nursing” with Dr. Paul Hersey and she wins Book of the Year from the American Journal of Nursing.
1992
Dr. Battey studies postgraduate courses at the Quantitative Methodology Institute at the National Center for Nursing Research with the National Institutes of Health.
1994
Dr. Battey becomes a professor of nursing in the School of Health Professions at the Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia.
1999
Dr. Battey becomes an adjunct associate professor at George Mason University and serves as a lay chaplain and mentor at Alexandra Hospital in Alexandra, Virginia.
2003
Dr. Battey marries Robert W. Battey and becomes an adjunct professor in the School of Nursing at Samuel Merritt University in Oakland, California.
2003
Dr. Battey initiates a research project about spiritual care in nursing.
2006
Dr. Battey begins working in private practice, presenting workshops and consulting.
2009
Dr. Battey authors “Humanism, Nursing, Communication and Holistic Care: A Position Paper.”
2017
Dr. Battey is named a Distinguished Humanitarian and receives the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award from Marquis Who’s Who.
