Born to parents Gilbert and Muriel in Bayside, NY.

1965

Earns a Bachelor of Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

1967

Earns a Master of Science from MIT.

1969

Earns a PhD in operations research at MIT.

1969

Serves as a professor at MIT until 2019.

1972

Dr. Larson’s book, “Urban Police Patrol Analysis,” receives the Frederick W. Lanchester Prize from the Operations Research Society of America.

1981

Co-authors “Urban Operations Research” via Prentice-Hall.

1990

Establishes Queues Enforth Development Inc. (QED), an independent consulting firm specializing in public safety software.

1993

Serves two separate terms as president of the Operations Research Society of America until 1994.

1995

Serves as director of the Center for Advanced Educational Services until 2003.

2002

Earns the President’s Award from the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS).

2005

Serves as president of INFORMS.

2017

Earns the Daniel Berg Lifetime Achievement Medal from the International Academy of Information Technology and Quantitative Management.

2019

Earns post-tenure status at MIT.
