1941

Is born to parents Harvey Carlton Gray Sr. and Annie Louise Williams Gray.

1961

Earns an Associate of Arts from Middle Georgia College

1964

Graduates from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry.

1966

Starts his career as a staff chemist at the Savannah River Plant, where he remains until 1969.

1967

Graduates from Texas Tech University with a Master of Science in chemistry.

1972

Concludes his higher education with a Doctor of Philosophy in inorganic chemistry at the University of South Carolina.

1972

Is a staff chemist at Savannah River National Lab until 1988.

1986

Is honored with inclusion in Who’s Who in Technology.

1986

Receives the U.S. DOE Military Application Award of Excellence for significant contributions to the Nuclear Weapons Program.

1988

Becomes a chief scientist at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

2000

Is promoted to Chief Scientist of the United States – Russian Plutonium Disposition Program.

2002

Receives the Glenn T. Seaborg Actinide Separations Award from the Actinide Separations Board.

2005

Retires from his position as a chief scientist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

2005

Returns to the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in a part-time capacity.

2021

Fully retires from the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.
