Graduates magna cum laude from Rice University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in biochemistry.

1983

Receives a Doctor of Medicine from Vanderbilt University.

1983

Becomes an intern and then resident in medicine at the Baylor College of Medicine.

1986

Becomes a postdoctoral fellow in the Division of Hematology at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.

1988

Becomes an instructor of medicine and then assistant professor at Vanderbilt University.

1988

Becomes an associate investigator for the Veterans Affairs Medical Center of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Marries Stacey W. McKenzie, M.D.
