1930

Born in Honolulu, Hawaii to Midori and Yasue Yamashiroya.

1953

Receives a Bachelor of Arts in bacteriology from the University of Hawaii.

1953

Serves as a 2nd to 1st lieutenant in the Medical Service Corps in the U.S. Army.

1955

Serves as a captain in the U.S. Army Reserves.

1956

Becomes a supervisor of clinical laboratories for the Atomic Bomb Casualty Commission of the National Academy of Sciences in Hiroshima, Japan.

1957

Marries Kiyoka Jyone.

1960

Becomes a research and teaching assistant in the Department of Microbiology at the University of Illinois Medical Center.

1962

Receives a Master of Science in microbiology from the University of Illinois College of Medicine.

1964

Serves as associate to senior bacteriologist at the Illinois of Technology Research Institute.

1965

Receives a Doctor of Philosophy in microbiology from the University of Illinois College of Medicine.

1971

Becomes an associate professor and director of graduate studies in the Department of Pathology at the University of Illinois.

1975

Co-authors “Essentials of Medical Virology.”

1980

Co-authors “Medical Microbiology.”

Is appointed to the Clinical Laboratory and Blood Bank Advisory Board of the State of Illinois.

Receives the Tanner-Shaughnessey Merit Award from the Illinois Society of Microbiology.
