Dr. McCalla is born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada to Frederick Ratcliffe and Gladys Louise McCalla.

Dr. McCalla receives a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture with high distinction from the University of Alberta.
1963
Dr. McCalla receives a Master of Arts from the University of Alberta.
1966
Dr. McCalla receives a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Minnesota.
1966
Dr. McCalla is appointed assistant professor of Agricultural Economics at the University of California, Davis.
1969
Dr. McCalla is promoted to associate professor at the University of California, Davis.
1970
For five years, Dr. McCalla serves as Dean of the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and Associate Director of the California Agricultural Experiment Station at UC Davis.
1972
Dr. McCalla is promoted to full professor at the University of California, Davis.
1979
For two years, Dr. McCalla serves as Founding Dean of the Graduate School of Administration (now Management) at the University of California, Davis.
1981
Dr. McCalla co-authors “Grain Export Cartels” and co-edits “Imperfect Markets in Agricultural Trade.”
1985
Dr. McCalla co-authors “Agricultural Policies and World Markets.”
1988
Dr. McCalla is appointed chair of the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) for the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). He serves for seven years.

Dr. McCalla becomes Professor Emeritus of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Emeritus Professor of Management at the University of California, Davis.

Dr. McCalla becomes Director of Agricultural and Natural Resources for The World Bank in Washington, D.C.

Dr. McCalla becomes Director of Rural Development for The World Bank.

Dr. McCalla receives an Honorary Doctorate from Georgian State Agrarian University.
