Dr. Lucas is born in Pomona, California to Leo John and Mary Gertrude Lucas.
1943
Dr. Lucas joins the U.S. Naval Reserve, rising in the ranks to Lieutenant (junior grade).
1948
Dr. Lucas receives a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
1949
Dr. Lucas receives a Master of Science in Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles.
1952
Dr. Lucas marries Genevieve Marie Lucas.
1953
Dr. Lucas receives a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of California, Los Angeles.
1953
Dr. Lucas serves as a National Science Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow at the Fritz Haber Institute in Berlin, Germany.
1954
Dr. Lucas becomes a Supervisor of the Thermal Research Group at the California Institute of Technology Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.
1966
Dr. Lucas becomes the Coordinator of Research and Advanced Development of Engineering Mechanics at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
1970
Dr. Lucas is appointed Manager of Research at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
1971
Dr. Lucas serves as editor of “Heat Transfer and Scapecraft Thermal Control.”
1972
Dr. Lucas serves as editor of “Fundamentals of Spacecraft Thermal Design” and “Thermal Characteristics of the Moon.”
1974
Dr. Lucas becomes an Executive Assistant to both the Director and the Deputy Director of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
1975
Dr. Lucas serves as National Vice President for technical affairs for the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
1977
Dr. Lucas becomes a Project Manager of Solar Thermal Parabolic Dish Tech.
1984
Dr. Lucas receives the Group Achievement Award from NASA.
