Mr. Wauer is born in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Herman Horst and Adeline Wauer.

Mr. Wauer receives a Bachelor of Science in wildlife management from San Jose State University.

Mr. Wauer becomes a park naturalist for Death Valley National Monument in California.

Mr. Wauer becomes a park naturalist for Zion National Park in Springdale, Utah.
1966
Mr. Wauer becomes chief park naturalist of Big Bend National Park in Texas.
1970
Mr. Wauer receives a Master of Science in biological sciences from Sul Ross State University.
1972
Mr. Wauer becomes chief scientist for the Southwest Region National Park Service in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Mr. Wauer receives the Special Achievement Award from the National Park Service.

Mr. Wauer becomes chief of the Division on Natural Resources of the National Park Service in Washington.
