Dr. Arnett is born in Salyersville, Kentucky to Frank Couchman Arnett and Edna Carol Salyer Arnett.
1964
Dr. Arnett receives a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Cincinnati.
1965
Dr. Arnett marries Lynne Anne Whetstone.
1968
Dr. Arnett receives a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Cincinnati, where he is also elected to Alpha Omega Alpha and receives the Peter T. Kilgore Award as the best student.
1968
Dr. Arnett begins a medical residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.
1970
Dr. Arnett becomes a Rheumatology Fellow at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
1972
Dr. Arnett is appointed chief of rheumatology at the Wilford Hall Medical Facility at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.
1972
Dr. Arnett becomes certified in internal medicine through the American Board Internal Medicine.
1974
Dr. Arnett becomes an instructor of medicine at Johns Hopkins University.
1975
Dr. Arnett becomes an assistant professor at Johns Hopkins University, eventually becoming an associate professor.
1976
Dr. Arnett becomes certified in rheumatology.
1984
Dr. Arnett is appointed director of the Division of Rheumatology and becomes a professor of internal medicine at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth).
1990
Dr. Arnett becomes certified in diagnostic immunology.
2000
Dr. Arnett is honored among the Best Doctor in America for the next 12 years.
2001
Dr. Arnett is appointed chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine at UTHealth.
2006
Dr. Arnett receives the Distinguished Educator Award from the TIAA-CREF.
2008
Dr. Arnett is named Master of the American College of Rheumatology (MACR) and of the American College of Physicians (MACP) and is elected to the Association of American Physicians (AAP).
2009
Dr. Arnett receives the President’s Scholar and Research Teaching Awards from UTHealth.
2012
Dr. Arnett retires and is named Professor Emeritus at UTHealth.
2017
Dr. Arnett is named a Distinguished Humanitarian by Marquis Who’s Who.
