Mr. Tyer is born in Lorenzo, Texas to Charlie and Juanita Tyer.
1951
Mr. Tyer marries Alma Lois Davis.
1952
Mr. Tyer receives a bachelor’s degree from Abilene Christian University and begins his career as a librarian and teacher in public schools throughout Gail, Lubbock, and Seminole, Texas.
1959
Mr. Tyer receives a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies from the University of North Texas.
1961
Mr. Tyer joins the staff at the Dallas Public Library.
1962
Mr. Tyer becomes the coordinator of Young Adult Services at Dallas Public Library.
1966
Mr. Tyer becomes the library director of the Lubbock Public Library.
1967
Mr. Tyer is promoted to library director of all Lubbock City County libraries.
1969
Mr. Tyer receives a master’s degree in educational leadership and administration in library science from Florida State University.
1971
Mr. Tyer joins the Graduate Library School (now The School of Library and Information Management) faculty as the state personnel coordinator at Emporia State University.
1972
Mr. Tyer becomes a senior consultant in professional development at the Illinois State Library in Springfield, Illinois.
1980
Mr. Tyer becomes the executive director of the Great River Library Systems in Quincy, Illinois.
1981
Mr. Tyer is appointed president of the Resource Sharing Alliance of SHARE Illinois.
1986
Mr. Tyer joins the adjunct faculty at the University of Missouri.
1990
Mr. Tyer is inducted into the University of North Texas Library and Information Science Hall of Fame.
1992
Mr. Tyer is appointed president of the Illinois Library System Director Organization.
1994
Mr. Tyer serves as a consultant in public relations and communications for Alliance Library Systems in Quincy, Illinois.
1997
Mr. Tyer becomes an independent library consultant.
2013
Mr. Tyer is appointed president of the Resident’s Council at Hickory Glen Senior Living in Springfield, Illinois.
2017
Mr. Tyer is honored with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award from Marquis Who’s Who.
