Is born in Wiesbaden, Germany, to parents Lt. Col. Harold G. Runyon and Betty Runyon.

1956

Immigrates to the United States.

1968

Serves the Los Angeles Police Department as a student worker until 1969.

1971

Marries Phyllis J. Runyon.

1971

Graduates from California State University Los Angeles with a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice.

1973

Spends his summers as an assistant to the director of the National Science Foundation Grant until 1979.

1975

Earns a Bachelor of Arts in biology from Humboldt State University, now Cal Poly Humboldt.

1975

Shares his knowledge as a biology instructor with the College of the Redwoods until 1978.

1977

First becomes a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

1978

Graduates from Humboldt State University with a Master of Arts in biology.

1978

Is a biology instructor at Allan Hancock College until 1980.

1979

Is honored multiple times by the FDA through 1988 for his expertise in water systems, water evaluations and environmental health.

1979

Works for Santa Barbara County as an environmental health specialist and inspector until 1984 and teaches at Chapman University until 1989.

1981

Receives certification as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist.

1984

Serves as facilities coordinator under the Lockheed Space Operations Command at Vandenberg Air Force Base until 1985.

1986

Is a hazardous materials program manager with Santa Barbara County Environmental Health until 1989.

1989

Works as a senior scientist for Halliburton NUS/Brown & Root Inc., now Scientech Inc., until 2000.

2000

Is an investigator, supervisor, and senior program analyst with the FDA.

2014

Retires from his position at the FDA.

2020

Rejoins the American Association for the Advancement of Science and remains a member through today.
