Dr. Jones is born in Evanston, Illinois to Charles and Fern Jones.
1944
Dr. Jones joins the United States Army.
1948
Dr. Jones receives a Bachelor of Science in physics and zoology from Northwestern University and he becomes a scientist for the United States Naval Ordnance Laboratory.
1949
Dr. Jones receives a Master of Science in physics from Northwestern University.
1952
Dr. Jones receives a Doctor of Philosophy in physics from the University of California, Berkeley and he becomes an instructor, assistant professor, and associate professor at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
1956
Dr. Jones serves as a physicist at Midwestern University Research Association.
1961
Dr. Jones becomes a Ford Foundation fellow at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN).
1963
Dr. Jones is promoted to full professor of physics at the University of Michigan.
1971
Dr. Jones serves as a visiting physicist at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia, Illinois.
1974
Dr. Jones serves as a consultant to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
1975
Dr. Jones is appointed president of the Ecology Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
1977
Dr. Jones serves as a visiting professor at the University of London and Westfield College (now Queen Mary University of London).

Dr. Jones serves as a visiting professor at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in Mumbai, India.

Dr. Jones is appointed chairman of the Department of Physics at the University of Michigan.

Dr. Jones becomes a staff associate at European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN).

Dr. Jones serves as a visiting professor at the University of Auckland and at the University of Sydney.
