Dr. Litchfield is born in Scituate, Massachusetts to Frank Albert and Alma Litchfield.
1950
Dr. Litchfield receives a Bachelor of Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and begins his career as a chemist at Searle Food Corporation in Hollywood, Florida.
1951
Dr. Litchfield becomes a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
1954
Dr. Litchfield receives a Master of Science from the University of Illinois.
1956
Dr. Litchfield receives a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Illinois and becomes a research food technologist at Swift & Company in Chicago, Illinois.
1957
Dr. Litchfield becomes an assistant professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology and provides consulting services to the food industry in Chicago, Illinois.
1960
Dr. Litchfield becomes a research leader at Battelle Memorial Institute in Columbus, Ohio.
1962
Dr. Litchfield co-authors “Food Plant Sanitation.”
1970
Dr. Litchfield serves as president of the Society of Industrial Microbiology.
1977
Dr. Litchfield becomes an adjunct associate professor at Ohio State University and receives the Charles Porter Award from the Society of Industrial Microbiology.
1980
Dr. Litchfield receives the Ohio Valley Section Distinguished Service and Fellow Awards of the Institute of Food Technologists.
1991
Dr. Litchfield serves as president of the Institute of Food Technologists.
1993
Dr. Litchfield joins the consulting staff at Battelle Memorial Institute.
1994
Dr. Litchfield receives the Carl R. Fellers Award from the Institute of Food Technologists.
