Dr. McKhann is born in Boston, Massachusetts to Charles Fremont McKhann and Emily McKhann.

1948

Dr. McKhann studies courses at Harvard University.

1955

Dr. McKhann receives a Doctor of Medicine from Yale University and becomes an intern at New York Hospital.

1956

Dr. McKhann becomes an assistant resident in pediatrics at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

1957

Dr. McKhann becomes a clinical associate at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.

1957

Dr. McKhann serves with the U.S. Public Health Service.

1960

Dr. McKhann becomes a resident in neurology at Massachusetts General Hospital.

1963

Dr. McKhann becomes an assistant professor of pediatrics and neurology at Stanford University.

1969

Dr. McKhann is appointed head of the neurology department and becomes a Kennedy Professor of Neurology at Johns Hopkins University.

1974

Dr. McKhann receives the Medical Student Teaching Award from Johns Hopkins University.

Dr. McKhann receives the Weinstein-Goldenson Research Award from United Cerebral Palsy.

Dr. McKhann is appointed director of the Zanvyl Krieger Mind Brain Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Dr. McKhann is presented with an honorary Doctor of Medicine from Hebei Medical College in Shijiazhuang, China.

Dr. McKhann receives the Undergraduate Teaching Award from Johns Hopkins University.

Dr. McKhann serves as acting director for clinical activities at the National Institute of Neurological Diseases and Strokes of the National Institutes of Health.
