Born to Maybelle Turner and Willie Clarence Turner in Mason City, IA.

1978

Earns a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Iowa.

1981

Conducts a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Iowa until 1983.

1985

Is certified as an obstetrician-gynecologist by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

2007

Obtains a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Drake University.

2010

Travels with The Outreach Program to participate in 12 medical missions to Tanzania through 2019.

2011

Is state vice president of the League of Women Voters Iowa Board until 2015.

2011

Is president of the Des Moines Metropolitan League until 2015.

2013

Is inducted into the Iowa Women’s Hall of Fame.

2015

Receives the Gertrude Rush Award from the National Bar Association.

2015

Is co-president of the League of Women Voters Iowa Board.

2015

Serves as vice president of International Programs and Medical Programs of The Outreach Program.

2016

Is associate medical director of Planned Parenthood North Central States until 2022.

Serves on the national board of directors of the League of Women Voters through today.

Receives the Louise Noun Visionary Women of the Year Award from the Young Women’s Resource Center of Des Moines.

2020

Is elected as the president of the League of Women Voters of the United States.

Is re-elected as the president of the League of Women Voters of the United States.
